just do it!-abridged version
Winston Churchill once said, “Courage is rightly considered the foremost of the virtues because upon it, all others depend.”
One major difference between leaders and followers is the courage to step out of the comfort zone.
Everyone has great ideas but only a few people ever take the steps towards actualizing their dreams.
Like eagles, we must learn how to fly.
Like eagles, we were created to soar.
We were created to stretch our wings and ascend the alpine heights of aspiration and achievement.
However, that will remain a fantasy except we are courageous enough to step out of the familiar.
Like Abraham, you are required to “leave” the familiar and “cleave” to the new.
Like Moses, you are drawn out of your background and commisioned to create a new foreground.
Like Esther, you have a place in the palace but you have to be stretched to step into that place.
God never did anything extraordinary through anyone who stayed attached to the familiar.
The familiar often fights your faith.Your faith is best exercised when you step out of the predictable.
Make this week special by moving out of every nest you have out-grown.
The nest must have been a blessing at some point but you were not created to live there all your life.
Step out now…
What are you waiting for?

In the book, Principle Centred Leadership, Dr. Steven Covey mentioned the works of Mohandas Karamchad Ghandi ,”The Seven Deadly sins.”
Ghandi wrote about these sins many years ago and they remain very valuable in the present times. We must eschew all forms of evil and her associated signs.
I share with you today the 7 deadly sins as written by Mohandas Karamchad Ghandi and described by Dr. Covey.
1. Wealth without work
This refers to the practice of getting something for nothing – manipulating markets and assets so you don’t have to work or produce added value, just manipulate people and things. Today there are professions built around making wealth without working, making much money without paying taxes, benefiting from free government programs without carrying a fair share of the financial burdens, and enjoying all the perks of citizenship of country and membership of corporation without assuming any of the risk or responsibility.
2. Pleasure without Conscience
The chief query of the immature, greedy, selfish, and sensuous has always been, “What’s in it for me? Will this please me? Will it ease me?” Lately many people seem to want these pleasures without conscience or sense of responsibility, even abandoning or utterly neglecting spouses and children in the name of doing their thing. Independence is not the most mature state of being – it’s only a middle position on the way to interdependence, the most advanced and mature state. To learn to give and take, to live selflessly, to be sensitive, to be considerate, is our challenge. Otherwise there is no sense of social responsibility or accountability in our pleasurable activities.
3.Knowledge Without Character
As dangerous as a little knowledge is, even more dangerous is much knowledge without a strong, principled character. Purely intellectual development without commensurate internal character development makes as much sense as putting a high-powered sports car in the hands of a teenager who is high on drugs. Yet all too often in the academic world, that’s exactly what we do by not focusing on the character development of young people.( Your education must be crowned by Commensurate level of character)
4. Commerce (Business) Without Morality (Ethics)
In his book Moral Sentiment, which preceded Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith explained how foundational to the success of our systems the moral foundation is: how we treat each other, the spirit of benevolence, of service, of contribution. If we ignore the moral foundation and allow economic systems to operate without moral foundation and without continued education, we will soon create an amoral, if not immoral, society and business. Economic and political systems are ultimately based on a moral foundation.
5. Science without Humanity
If science becomes all technique and technology, it quickly degenerates into man against humanity. Technologies come from the paradigms of science. And if there’s very little understanding of the higher human purposes that the technology is striving to serve, we becomes victims of our own technocracy. We see otherwise highly educated people climbing the scientific ladder of success, even though it’s often missing the rung called humanity and leaning against the wrong wall.
6: Religion without Sacrifice
Without sacrifice we may become active in a church but remain inactive in its gospel. In other words, we go for the social facade of religion and the piety of religious practices. There is no real walking with people or going the second mile or trying to deal with our social problems that may eventually undo our economic system. It takes sacrifice to serve the needs of other people – the sacrifice of our own pride and prejudice, among other things.
7. Politics without Principle
If there is no principle, there is no true north, nothing you can depend upon. The focus on the personality ethic is the instant creation of an image that sells well in the social and economic marketplace. You see politicians spending millions of Naira to create an image, even though it’s superficial, lacking substance, in order to get votes and gain office. And when it works, it leads to a political system operating independently of the natural laws that should govern – - that are built into the founding documents of our nation.
P.S.:Ayo Moses sent this to my facebook inbox.
The last 72 hours have been filled with lots of activities and loads of responsibilities.
Between Friday morning and this night(sunday night),
I have enjoyed a smooth flight,
settled a minor fight,
made new friends,
talked with Very Important People,
moderated a Talk Show,
granted two interviews,
given several informal speeches,
laughed out loud several times,
given out copies of “JUST DO IT!”,
received some nice gifts,
stumbled into an old school friend,
run into one of my favorite Uncles at the airport,
survived a turbulent flight…
I can extend the list but I guess it’s long enough.
However , one of the most significant things that happened over the weekend was that we caught fire in Abuja.
Now, don’t get scared.I am not talking about a physical inferno.I am talking about our experience at B.L.A.Z.E.
B.L.A.Z.E is an acronym for
Building
Lives
Actualizing destiny
Zeal to go
Excellence in relationships.
With Soul Quest, Jeremiah Gyang, Samsong, Pastor Bob Alonge and several other people, there was enough fire in the room to melt a mountain of ice.
Hundreds of young people were touched and I know their lives will never remain the same again.
I was glad to see people in their teens and twenties making a fresh commitment to pursue God’s purpose for their lives.
I was glad to see a generation of young people who will make the sacrifices necessary to inspire their generation and make their Nation a better place.
I am just glad that I was able to make my contribution to the event.
Now you know what I mean by we caught fire.
