What Are Your Thoughts About N.Y.S.C?

Over the last week, there has been a lot of informal discussions about the National Youth Service Corp (N.Y.S.C.)

These heated conversations have been fueled by the sad massacre of innocent Youth Corp members who were serving their fatherland in certain parts of the Northern Region of our country.

I have my thoughts about N.Y.S.C and if you watched the 7 o’clock and 10 o’clock news on  Silverbird Television last Monday, April 26, 2011, you may have heard a little bit of what I think.

I will still share my thoughts about N.Y.S.C on this blog but before then,I WANT TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS. Please, air your views. Bare it all. I’m all ears. What are your thoughts about the N.Y.S.C program?

Is This Love or What?

A soldier was sentenced to death by Oliver Cromwell for a terrible crime. He was to be executed by a firing squad as the curfew bell struck midnight.

All preparations were made, and as the time approached guns were loaded and readies. But the clock never struck. After a few minutes Cromwell sent some soldiers to investigate. They found that a young lady, the sweetheart of the man to be executed, had strapped herself to the clapper ofthe huge clock – so when it struck the side of the bell her body took the impact but made no sound. Both her legs were broken, one arm was badly damaged, several ribs were cracked. Cromwell was so moved by her remarkable sacrifice that he ordered her sweetheart to be freed. “Your love has saved him. No curfew bell will sound tonight.”

This story portrays love in one of it’s purest forms.

The ultimate proof of love is not sex, money or fun. It is sacrifice.

Pure love is demonstrated through sacrifice. It’s about what we are willing to give; what we are willing to let go of; what we are willing to do without just to ensure that someone else becomes better.

A lot of people think about love in terms of a romantic relationship. They think about love only on valentine’s day. It ought not to be so. Love is the essence of life. To love is to live. God is LOVE and God is the giver of life so LOVE  gives life. Love is LIFE.

We are called human beings but we really ought to be Love Beings.

As we remember the ultimate demonstration of God’s love for us in this season, take out time to reflect. Ponder on God’s love for you.

God became a man so that men can become like God.

Mel Gibson’s blockbuster movie, the Passions of The Christ is depicts the greatest story of  God’s love for us but you can be sure that the sufferings of Jesus for our sake were a lot more gruesome that what we see in that movie.

Jesus was brutalized that we may be revitalized.

Jesus died so that we may live.

Jesus bled so that we may be fed.

Jesus’  body was broken so that our bodies, souls and spirits may be whole.

We have to appreciate the fact that it wasn’t the nails that kept Jesus hanging on the cross. It was his passionate love for us.

No matter how you spend this holiday, remember to meditate on GOD’s unconditional love for you and find a way to spread the love.

Make a fresh commitment to love God with all your heart, mind and strength.

Make a fresh commitment to love your neighbor as yourself.

An easy way to do that is to ask yourself this question before you do anything: “Is this love or what?”

Here’s The Deal…

The truth be told-I have been “away” from this blog for a while.

Now, that’s not good at all. No excuse is good enough. I take the blame-all of it.

I realize that thousands of people from different walks of life stop by damioluwatoyinbo.com regularly to draw inspiration and find direction.

It’s been a lighthouse for many people.

For some, it’s been a clinic where they find remedy for their malady.

For others, it’s been a gymnasium where they exercise their mental muscles.

For some, it’s been a pool of wisdom.

For others, it’s been a fountain of hope.

For some, it’s been a sign pointing the direction of their desired destination.

For others, it’s been a wonder that makes them ponder.

Whatever this blog has been to you, I’m glad that it’s making a positive difference in your life and I intend to allow God to continually use it as a tool to transform lives and reform nations.

My schedule is becoming increasingly busy but I choose to prioritize my online audience. After all, it’s possible for me to reach out to people who live in countries I may never travel to simply through a blog post or video.

Today, I renew my commitment to damioluwatoyinbo.com and to you, dear reader.

Seize The Moment!

Three Keys To Nigeria’s Economic Transformation.

Everyday, we are buffeted by the stark reality of our economic paralysis.

Our Country is endowed with some of the world’s most precious resources yet we endure some of the toughest living conditions.

Our citizenry is a blend of the wealthiest people on the continent as well as the poorest people on the planet- a shocking mix of princes and paupers. Whilst a few of us can afford the luxuries of life, most of us barely get by and would even consider a meal of burger and chips a rare delicacy.

It is a paradox that in recent times, we have recorded a higher GDP with each new year, yet we have also recorded a higher cost of living as well as a lower standard of living.

Think about the 5o million able-bodied people who have no jobs and have to hustle just to keep body and soul together. Some of them live on your street and “hang around” all day, trying their hands on various ventures hoping that something will “click”. Many of such people may be called “glorified beggars” as they would do almost anything to eke a living.

What about the 70 million people who go to bed every night with nothing to swallow…except their pride?

The facts and figures stare us in the face. Poverty is ravaging our nation at an alarming rate. As our economic situation worsens, people are becoming more desperate. You don’t need to be a prophet to know that it’s either we change or perish.

I choose to say “IT’S TIME FOR CHANGE”.

I do not intend to analyze the ugly situation we have in our hands. Most Nigerians I know are gifted at analyzing our economic doldrums. The reason I’m writing  this is to proffer simple solutions to the complex problem that we have created over the last five decades.

I have a few recommendations…and it’s my prayer that you will make good use of the points I’m sharing here, regardless of your political inclination, social class, financial status, religious persuasion or tribe.

These are the three keys to Nigeria’s economic transformation:

First, INTEGRITY.

“Integrity” is from the word, “Integer’ which means “whole number”.

Integrity is the state of being a single whole.

A person of integrity says what he means and means what he says.

You might be shocked to realize that a nation with people who lack integrity is like a building with a weak foundation. Any economy built on lies, selfishness and an unbridled appetite for wealth is bound to collapse.

According to a World Bank report, 80 percent of  Nigeria’s oil and gas revenue benefits only 1% of the Nigerian populace because of corruption. Now, that’s appalling. Our God-given resources are siphoned into the pockets of a few people who pledge to serve  the Nation yet  turn around to serve themselves. Our nation is bedeviled by a host of dishonest and deceitful men and women.

Our biggest need is a generation of people whose deeds are in congruence with their creeds.

It’s important for us to note that this is not just about political officers and government functionaries. This is about everyone of us.

Nigerian leaders are first Nigerians before they are leaders. More often than not, our leaders are a reflection of our citizenry. I have heard people say that they will embezzle if they get elected into public office. The same people lambast the current leaders we have.

Many of us keep pointing accusing fingers at corrupt leaders but it’s time for us to look inwards and make the necessary adjustments in our own lives.

If you are a pastor, don’t steal church money.

If you are a policeman, stop exploiting motorists.

If you are a customs officer, don’t take bribes.

If you are an accountant, don’t doctor financial records.

If you are a businessman, don’t cheat your customers and clients.

We can’t fix Nigeria without first fixing Nigerians.

Let’s start with you. Work on yourself but more importantly, ask God to work on you.

Let’s get it right individually then it would be easier to progress corporately.

Trying to fix the economy without embracing INTEGRITY is like trying to fill a basket with water.

Kindly share this link on facebook, twitter and any other media you have access to. It will touch and transform thousands and perhaps millions of lives.

I’d also like to read your comments.

P.S.: Watch out for the other two keys.

March Fourth…March Forth!

It’s my month.

I was born this month and it’s twenty days to my birthday.

Yippeee.

I’d talk a lot more about that later.

As you know, this is the last month of the first quarter of this year. I believe you have already overcome the drag that comes with the beginning of a new year. If you haven’t yet gotten your rhythm of productivity please do.

Ensure that you March forth. It’s not time to rest.

Make

Adjustments and

Reach

Compelling

Heights!

May your MARCH be prosperous and may your life be blessed!

These Facts May Amuse You (Part 2)

A few months ago, I put up an interesting post titled “These Facts May Amuse You.”

It got a lot of people talking and more importantly, more people started sharing other interesting facts.

Now, I’ve decided to write a second part of that article and I’m sure you’d learn a few new things.

These facts  may coming in handy at some point so you’d do well to remember as many of them as you can.

Here we go…

  • The human face is made up of 14 bones.
  • No word in the English language rhymes with the word “month”.(I’ve been trying to find one for days)
  • Let’s see a few facts about inventions.

  • Ballpoint pens were invented by a scientist whowas attempting to reduce the killing of birds for their quills.
  • Bullet proof vests, fire escapes, windshield wipers and laser printers have ove thing in common-they were all invented by women.(Who says that women are not super-smart?)
  • If you’ve ever felt left out, you are not alone. Check this out:

  • The only bird that cannot fly is the penguin.
  •

Some things are stronger than you think…

  • Like ants and termites, honeybees livewith thousands of others in colonies. Honeybee nests are very strong and can last upto 50 years.

You’d like these facts about animals…

  • Tortoises have the longest life spanamongst all animals. One tortoise from Seychelles died at the age of 150 in 1918.
  • Many primates, including daboons, who spend a lot of time sitting around, have built-in padding on their backsides.
  • Sharks can sense their prey, even when there is no blood. A lateral line along their bodies allows them to sense ripples in water. If you are adventurous, please be extra-careful if you ever go sea-swimming or deepsea diving.
  • Shark skin is very tough, with teeth like denticles. Therefore, shark skin was once used for smoothing down wood instead of sandpaper.
  • The fastest land snakes are the deadly black mambas. Thesspeedy snakes can race along at about 12mph.
  • Pigs cannot sweat becausethey don’t have sweat glands. Instead, they roll around in mud to keep themselves cool so the next time you see a pig rolling in mud, don’t cuss, don’t curse, it’s just trying to stay cool.
  •

Can we talk about matters of “National importance”?

  •  Paraguay and Moldova are the only countries with national flags with different emblems on the obverse and reverse sides
  • Mercury is the fastest planet. It zooms around the sun in just 88 days, at an incredible107, 000 mph, faster than any space rocket.
  • You will weigh less if you weigh yourself when the moon is full. Try it whenever you can. (You can be sure that there are many women out there who would prefer to have a full moon everyday.)

Feel free to share what you know in the comment box below.

Please  share the link with your friends on facebook, twitter and other social media. They’d be glad you did.
