Your Focus Determines Your Future

future

Last week, I wrote about focus.

I intend to talk about that again today. It’s important that I do because your failure or success, growth or stagnation, peace or war, prosperity or poverty largely depends on your FOCUS.

Your focus determines your future.

What you keep looking at determines what you will eventually look like.

The people you look up to and study determines who will look up to you and study you. That’s the rhythm of life.

If you’ve seen the the movie THE SOCIAL NETWORK, you’d realize that Mark Zuckerberg was greatly influenced by Bill Gates.

Both of them are different. They belong to different generations but you see a common thread. They have both changed the world by making invaluable contributions through Information Technology.

Elijah told Elisha “If you see me when I’m taken up, you will receive a double portion of my anointing”

Focus.

What you focus on determines what grows in you

and what grows in you determines what grows through you and comes out of you.

One of my beloved mentors, Fela Durotoye once told me “Your future is not some timezone in the future. It is everything that you can become that you haven’t become yet.”

In a sense, you create your future through the things you focus on. Your future “doesn’t happen” without your participation. Something you are focusing on today is creating an experience some will call tomorrow.

So if you desire an experience, focus on the ingredients that create that experience.

The writer of Hebrews says “Looking unto Jesus, the Author and the Finisher of our faith”

Why Jesus? Why not David, Solomon, Isaiah or Paul?

It’s simple. None of the other men was perfect, blameless and entirely God. Jesus is. He is the human expression of divine wisdom and perfection.

God says “Focus on my PERFECTION” That will give you strength to press on when you feel like quitting. “Focus on my finished work”

That will stop you from giving up on yourself and those around you.

It takes discipline to focus.

Distractions abound. From the nagging pull of inner conflict to the overwhelming deluge of information pouring through digital devices from social media platforms. It is becoming increasingly difficult to focus. That also means it’s becoming increasingly easier to fail…to fall apart. The easy way is seldom the right way. More often than not, he difficult way, is the right way. It costs something to focus but it might cost you everything, if you don’t focus.

Keep this in mind- At the end of your life, you will not be able to attribute the outcome of your stay on earth to anything other than this one thing- what you chose to focus on per time.

Keep your focus- on the right things, the right people for the right reasons.

Please share your thoughts and questions- if any.

  3. Great article Sir, It’s a good thing to have focus, I have always known this, but I have a challenge; I am good at a lot of things ( a great talker, actor, teacher, human resource person and really interested in politics). These things are pulling me in different directions that i don’t even know what to focus on, and i notice that people that are not even close to me academically or in talent are making headway, while I am stuck in a place. I have tried talking to counsellors but they don’t understand me, I am hoping you will be able to help me Pst. Dami.

  4. ‘The future doesn’t happen without your participation’, these words struck me. While we are busy praying and planning for the future, we must make inputs and participate in charting the course of the future. This article is a morale booster and a gift for me this new month. Thanks for sharing this wisdom Sir!

  5. Great one sir!
Sir, there is a saying that says ”FOCUS LESS ON THE AWARD AND U’LL GET RESULT”.

How do you relate it with the blog sir?

  6. Hi this is kind of of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually
code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding know-how so I wanted to get guidance
from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  7. It takes discipline to be focused! Hmmn! The message is short, sharp and focused. More grace to you, Dami.
